About

Hi! My name is Kate and I’m the sole creator and manufacturer for Charming Headpieces. If you had asked me a year ago if I was interested in millinery, I wouldn’t have even known what that was. But over the last year it has become a bit of an obsession.

I’ve always been interested in hats, but wearing them on a regular basis didn’t start until recently. In high school, I absolutely loved my faux suede newsboy hat and thought I looked so cool when I wore it. The only problem was that it gained a lot of attention. And the girl I was in high school did not want attention.

As I grew older, I still liked hats, but didn’t think I could wear them. What were the appropriate occasions for hats? But then I started travelling for work and so I wanted to look put together. I created a “uniform” for my travel days which included a couple different fedoras. I still received comments when I wore them, but mostly people just commented on the fact that I was travelling since they realized that was the only time I wore my hats.

Obviously in 2020, my travelling stopped and I missed my hats, so I started thinking of where I could wear my hats. Then came the idea that I could wear hats to church. I wasn’t going to wear the fedoras that I already owned, so I started searching for new hats which would match my dresses. And that is when I discovered Fascinators.

Of course I had seen pictures of royals wearing these cocktail hats, but I didn’t know what they were. The more I learned about them, the more I became fascinated. But also the more I started thinking that I could make them myself. My first attempt was really basic but didn’t turn out too bad. I wanted to get better though, so I started buying books and kits to help me learn new techniques.

I quickly learned that millinery was an expensive hobby but also one that I loved. Coming up with new designs and then putting them together was exciting and a constant challenge for me. I wanted to continue to come up with new ideas, but more, I wanted to share them with others. More than that, I want to help people find a hat that makes them feel confident and that they love.

If there is a hat which you would like created for a special occasion, please contact me at CharmingHeadpieces@gmail.com. I would love to work with you to ensure you have just what you are looking for.
